the high line

The High Line.
One of the prettiest parks in the city, if you ask me.
Made on the railroad line that's been out of use for years.

cloudy

Yesterday was perfect.
On our evening trail run in the rainy, muddy mountains,
(what's better than running in the rain?)
my sister and I saw deer, wild turkeys,
and happened across some rhubarb in a meadow.
So, we picked some.
And made delicious rhubarb pie.
Which we enjoyed with wonderful friends.

Yellowstone

If you haven't been—go.
Yellowstone is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.
And the "grizzly berry" ice cream at Mammoth hot springs grill is delicious.

three day weekend

Last Friday, my friends and I suddenly realized that none of us had work on Monday.
We couldn't let a three day weekend pass us by,
so we immediately packed up and road tripped up to Yellowstone.

Carpe diem.

San Juan River

This latest trip is one to go down in the books.

We had great weather but besides that, everything that could possibly go wrong, did:

We didn't get the permit for the river we wanted.
Our oarlock ripped out of the frame...twice.
The second time it took our oar to the bottom of the river with it—lost forever.
We spent the last two days with someone rowing with an oar, and two people paddling with kayak paddles on the other side of the raft.
Our boat was so leaky it barely stayed afloat.
We got lost twice while trying to find hikes and bushwhacked through lots of brush.
Our last night we spent three hours trying to find camping,
then finally gave up and threw our bags down on some gravel and fell asleep exhausted.

And I've never laughed so much in my life.
I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

have a happy weekend!

I'm off on an impromptu road trip with my sister.
I love impromptu road trips.
Especially with my sister.

calls for celebration

Finals are over.

I had a fantastic birthday.
The rest of this week is going to make up for every night I missed out on something to work on a project: a barbecue, a bonfire with old friends, dinner with the ladies, a bridal shower, a belated birthday party and spring skiing.
So much to be happy about.

hot and sour soup for the soul

Nothing better than dinner in the basement of the art building
at an old, long-forgotten wooden table,
surrounded by scaffolding and discarded stage sets
with music flowing in from an orchestra pit somewhere.

Thanks Krystyna.
And everyone, for your encouragement.

New York, New York

See you in a week! I may or (probably) may not be blogging while I'm out there. Have a happy, happy week.

heart NYC

Look at what Katie did!

Put a little paper-heart-cutout on her camera lens,

and turned the lights of NYC into hearts! So cute. I have a feeling that if I did that, it wouldn't turn out quite as amazing, but I want to try it anyway...and maybe I will...because guess what??? I'm heading to NYC in the morning! yay hooray! I'm so excited. I'll be there for one week, I've never been and I just love new adventures. :)

Silhouette Masterpiece Theatre

This is my favorite piece from Silhouette Masterpiece Theatre.

skate skiing

Last weekend was my first attempt at cross country skiing....skate style. And it was amazing! I've cross country skied for years but have never gotten around to trying skate skiing, so I figured it was high time to do so. I'm hooked. It's a rigorous workout, (I was sore for days) and it was great to get out into the fresh air. I have no pics to share of me actually skiing, but a few of the beautiful surroundings. If you haven't tried skiing in your life yet, then do it. Any way you can—downhill, cross country, skate skiing—heck, even snowboarding. It will cure you of any ill will toward winter storms.

want more photos? right this way

Tooth Fairy Kit

I love this tooth fairy kit from Notion Farm. I know, it's completely impractical. And besides, what tooth-losing-child would appreciate it? Probably none. But look how beautifully designed it is. Does the tooth fairy visit old people when they start losing teeth? I'm sure they'd be able to appreciate a letterpressed and silkscreened package from the tooth fairy.

sweet photos

I wanted to share my favorite photo manipulating sites. I think this is almost too much goodness for one post, but I figure everyone could use a great post on a Monday, right? So, here we go. (I'll warn you now—these things might keep you busy for much too long.)

First off is Poladroid, which lets you download a program that is super easy to use and turns your pictures into polaroids. So fantastic! (found via one of my new favorite blogs—what's mine is yours)

Second up is BeFunky. Their options are pretty similar to photobooth, but I think that their "Warholizer" is much better than the photobooth popart option. (found via ShopGirl*)

Next is TiltShiftMaker—the nifty site that manipulates photos to make objects look miniature. This one can be tricky to get a good image with, but is very fun to try.

And finally, I figure that I should throw in the "Obamifier", although you've probably seen it already. The only downside to this site is that you have to register for it.

Fun! I love them all, but think that I'll be getting most use out of Poladroid in the future.
